At Canadian Info Tech (CIT), we believe that real innovation doesn't always come from high-cost equipment or rigid specifications — it comes from understanding the core of the problem and solving it creatively, effectively, and efficiently.
Today, we’re sharing two real-world success stories where our team delivered practical, out-of-the-box solutions by reimagining the use of everyday technology.
🚨 Case 1: Power Loss Monitoring with a GPS Tracker
📍 The Problem:
At one of our client’s remote infrastructure sites, a critical piece of rotating equipment was responsible for pumping water to a nearby village. The equipment had no physical oversight — it was located in a no-man zone, far from any personnel or communication infrastructure.
The challenge?
If the equipment lost power, the entire water supply line to the village could be interrupted. But with no IP addressable network or connectivity in place, the monitoring team had no way to be alerted if and when this happened.
💡 The CIT Solution:
Instead of proposing a full-fledged SCADA upgrade or costly satellite infrastructure, our team did what we do best: thought differently.
We repurposed a vehicle GPS tracking device — a tool typically used for fleet management — and turned it into a remote power-loss detection system.
- The tracker was connected to the main power line of the equipment.
- If power was lost, the tracker’s internal battery would take over.
- Once on battery, the device would automatically send an SMS alert to the monitoring team, notifying them that the site had lost power.
✅ The Result:
- Real-time visibility into a power-critical asset
- No network or Wi-Fi required
- No new hardware investment — used existing GPS tracking technology
- Rapid deployment and low maintenance
This creative workaround gave the client peace of mind and operational assurance, using a device that wasn’t originally designed for this job — and that’s exactly what CIT does best.
🌡️ Case 2: Warehouse Temperature Monitoring — Simplified
📍 The Problem:
In another case, a client needed to monitor the temperature inside a closed, unmanned warehouse. The warehouse stored materials sensitive to heat, and there was a strong requirement to track internal temperatures and store the data centrally for analysis and recordkeeping.
But again — no traditional IT infrastructure was in place. No local sensors. No data gateways. No network.
💡 The CIT Solution:
Instead of building an expensive environmental monitoring system from scratch, we once again leveraged GPS tracking technology, this time using a tracker with a temperature sensor add-on.
- The tracker was installed inside the warehouse.
- The temperature sensor relayed real-time readings to the tracker.
- The data was transmitted securely over the GPS network to the server.
- The customer could then access and download the temperature logs from a centralized, secure dashboard.
✅ The Result:
- Fast deployment without network dependencies
- Accurate temperature data from a remote site
- Minimal operational overhead
- An unconventional but 100% effective solution
Once again, we used available technology in a new context — achieving everything the client asked for, at a fraction of the cost of traditional systems.
🧠 What These Stories Prove
These two success stories are more than just clever fixes — they reflect the core of CIT’s philosophy:
We don’t force clients to adapt to technology. We make technology adapt to our clients.
By repurposing GPS trackers for power-loss and temperature monitoring, we demonstrated:
- How everyday tools can solve unique challenges
- That cost-effective solutions can outperform complex ones
- And that a team willing to think differently can unlock new possibilities
🔧 Tailored Innovation Is Our Standard
At CIT, innovation isn’t a buzzword — it’s baked into everything we do.
We take pride in our ability to:
- Re-engineer simple components for complex use cases
- Tailor systems for environments where others see dead ends
- Deliver fast, reliable, and scalable results even in infrastructure-poor or remote regions
Whether you’re managing a village water system, a high-security warehouse, or a mission-critical industrial site — we find the solution that works best for you, not the one that’s easiest to sell.
Have a Challenge? Let’s Solve It.
If your organization is facing a technical roadblock — remote monitoring, system alerts, or environmental sensing — we’d love to take a look. Our team thrives on turning complex problems into elegant, field-tested solutions.
